MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Golden Gophers are ready to host the Badgers this Friday, Oct. 17 at 5:00 p.m. CT. This meet marks the first conference dual of the 2014-15 season for the Gophers, as well as the first official home meet of the season. Last Friday, the Gophers hosted former greats in the annual alumni meet. Both the men's and women's teams are 1-0 after they cruised past Arizona State in the season-opener.
BORDER-BATTLE
The Wisconsin men (2-0) are coming off two wins against Arizona State and Arizona, where the women's team (1-1) fell to Arizona, but cruised by Arizona State.
Last year Minnesota topped Wisconsin after two days of competition in Madison, Wisconsin. The Gopher men won 220-150. Highlights included Manny Pollard sweeping the diving competition placing first on both the one-meter and three-meter boards. Historically the men's team has a 56-41 advantage over the Wisconsin Badgers dating back to the very first meeting in 1922. In the last 12 years alone the Minnesota men have been undefeated against Wisconsin.
In 2013, the women's team beat the Badgers after 40 events with a score of 218-152. The women's rivalry between Minnesota and Wisconsin has been a staple competition in both university's histories. This year will be no different. Going into this weekend's dual, Minnesota Gophers hold an advantage over the Badgers as they have won the last six meetings since 2008.
The Gophers will look to continue their success over the Badgers, while celebrating both seniors and hall of fame inductees.
