Gopher Sports: Why did you decide to attend the University of Minnesota?

DJ Friesch: I wanted to go to a Big Ten school that would challenge me both in and out of the pool.

GS: What is your most memorable swimming moment?

DF:
There's not a single moment, but I would say that every training trip over winter break has been a highlight. We all have so much fun and everyone steps up to any challenge that comes our way.

GS: What is your favorite part of being a Golden Gopher?

DF: The people! Everyone here is incredible, all of my teammates, the coaching staff and everyone who helps us along the way. I'm so lucky to be a part of such an amazing community.

GS: What is your favorite pre-race song?

DF: "Tremor" by Martin Garrix

GS:
What is the best advice you have received from one of the coaches at Minnesota?

DF: Kelly Kremer has told us multiple times to enjoy the process, and now that I am a senior that advice has become even more important. We all work so hard with swimming and school, that you have to take it one day at a time and keep in mind how lucky we are to be at such a great place.

GS: What is your dream job?

DF: As of now, I would love to become an immigration lawyer.

GS: What is your favorite post-meet meal?

DF: Anything from Tony's Diner!

GS: Do you have any other hobbies outside of swimming?

DF: I love to read when I have the time. I've also been trying to teach myself how to cook, although I still have a lot to learn.

GS: What are you planning on doing after graduation?

DF: I'm planning on taking a year off of school and working until I go to law school.

GS: Want to give a shoutout to anyone?

DF: My family for always supporting me, all of my teammates and Goldy!
