MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota swimming and diving program is gearing up for the first non-conference dual of the season against the Sun Devils. The Gophers will head to Tempe, Arizona with competition beginning Saturday, Oct. 4th at 2:00 p.m. CT.

FRESH FACES

Nearly 20 Golden Gophers will compete in their first collegiate meet this weekend. Head coach Kelly Kremer believes this group of freshmen bring a lot of energy and balance to the team and is excited to see what they can do.

In addition to the freshman, newly appointed assistant coach Gideon Louw will be making his Minnesota coaching debut vs. the Sun Devils. Louw joins Minnesota after serving the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Florida State. He competed in both the 2008 and 2012 Olympics for South Africa.

THE OPPONENTS

Last year's dual against Arizona State resulted in a 'W' for both the Minnesota men and women. The Gopher men took down the Sun Devils by a score of 190-95. Then freshman, Daryl Turner, had a standout meet earning him "B1G Swimmer of the Week" honors after taking home four first-place finishes. The Minnesota women finished with a score of 197-94 against the Sun Devils. Kierra Smith captured the gold in both the 100 and 200 breast.
