ROSEMONT, Ill. - Fourteen of the country's most storied college hockey programs will compete this fall in the second Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, announced today by the Big Ten Conference and the Hockey East Association. Nine of 12 Hockey East institutions will join five of the six Big Ten schools in 20 designated games to be played between October 10 and November 29, with 10 games scheduled in Hockey East arenas and 10 in Big Ten venues. A full schedule can be found below.

Minnesota's home series with Notre Dame on Nov. 7-9 and road nonconference games at Boston College on Nov. 28 and at Northeastern on Nov. 29 will factor into this year's conference competition.

"As we move into the second year of the Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, the event continues to offer student-athletes a great opportunity to play in high-level games against top competition," said Big Ten Associate Commissioner Jennifer Heppel. "The event reinforces our excellent relationship with Hockey East and helps promote the game of college hockey across the nation."

"We enjoy a great relationship with the Big Ten and its institutions and we hope to grow those relationships through increased competition between our member schools," said Hockey East Commissioner Joe Bertagna. "We increased the number of games in the "Challenge" this year and hope we can continue to interact as conferences."

A Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge Cup will be presented to the conference that records the most points from the 20 contests. Teams will earn two points for a win, one point for a tie and a bonus point will be awarded for a road win. Should a Big Ten school utilize a shootout in any of its home games, it will not factor into the result.

The 18 schools within the two conferences have an unparalleled record of success, combining to claim 33 national championships during the 67 seasons that the NCAA has sponsored the sport. Of the 14 schools participating in this year's Big Ten/Hockey East Challenge, six took part in last season's NCAA Championship
