FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Eight Gophers ran season or career-best times as the University of Minnesota hosted the seventh annual running of Jack's Twilight Run at Les Bolstad Course on Saturday night.

Redshirt freshman Madeline Strandemo ran a career-best 22:10.1 as the second female finisher in the open 6K race. She took second to unattached Gopher Emily Castanias (22:03.4).

Behind Strandemo, who took 18th overall, the next three Gopher finishers all had lifetime or season-best times. Redshirt junior Stacey Swatek was the fourth female finisher in a lifetime-best 22:16.9 (21st overall), followed by redshirt senior Chelsea Pettit (season-best 22:43.7) and graduate student Marnie Kinnaird (season-best 22:51.4).

Redshirt freshmen Naomi Ollila (23:05.3), Violet Weibel (23:30.6) and Nicole Heitzman (23:31) all ran career-best times as well. Fellow redshirt freshman Paige D'Heilly competed in her first race of the season, posting a time of 24:37.8, as well.

In total, 69 runners participated in this year's running of Jack's Twilight Run. Jonathan Grey of Team USA Minnesota was the overall champion in 18:00.7.

The 6K honors the late Minnesota equipment manager Jack Johnson. Johnson will always be a part of the Minnesota women's cross country and track programs. After serving as the Golden Gophers' equipment manager for over three decades, Johnson passed away in February 2006 after a battle with cancer.

Several Gophers also competed unattached at Jack's Run, including women's champion Castanias (17th overall, 22:03.4), Patty O'Brien (19th, 22:10.5), Sarah Richardson (22nd, 22:38.4), Courtney Alama (25th, 22:56.0), Molly Eastman (28th, 23:05.8), Delaney Sinnen (32nd, 23:24.1) and Madeline Brighouse Glueck (41st, 24:27.2).

Minnesota will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the 2014 Big Ten Championships next Sunday. The University of Iowa will host the B1G championship meet at Ashton Cross Country Course. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m.
