MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota softball team shut out St. Cloud State Friday night at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. Due to weather conditions, the teams played one 10-inning game instead of a doubleheader, as originally scheduled.

Coming off 7-5 and 11-5 fall-opening wins against 2014 NCAA Regional foe North Dakota State, the Gophers jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. A pair of unearned runs in the first inning staked the Gophers to an advantage they would not relinquish.

Kylie Stober pitched two perfect innings, registering four strikeouts to start the game. As Minnesota put up runs in the second, third, and fourth stanzas, Nikki Anderson held the Huskies off the board for six consecutive innings while fanning six batters. Hannah Evavold closed out the game in the circle to complete the shutout.

Ten different Gophers recorded hits in the victory, led by Paige Palkovich's two. Taylor LeMay, who hit a solo home run in the third, and Kaitlyn Richardson each used a hit and two walks to reach base three times apiece.

The Gophers' next fall games are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17 at home against Concordia-St. Paul. They wrap up Oct. 24 when they host a doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth.
