After two weeks away from the course, the Minnesota women's golf team returns to action Monday and Tuesday as the Gophers take part in the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
The golfers will play 36 holes on Monday with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m., with final round tee times set for Tuesday beginning at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring for the 54-hole event at Westmoreland Country Club is available by visiting the link above.
The tournament, hosted by fellow Big Ten member Northwestern, features a 15-team field. Besides the Gophers and the Wildcats, three other B1G schools in Ohio State, Purdue and Wisconsin will be participating. The field is rounded out by Arizona, Georgia, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami, New Mexico, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Tulane and USC.
"I think we're definitely ready to compete; it's been a couple weeks and we're ready to go," said head coach Michele Redman. "This will probably be the toughest field we'll see until we get to regionals. I'm excited to see how we are going to perform against some really good teams. I've seen some really good progress and it's exciting for me to get us out there."
Coming off a seventh-place finish at its home tournament, the Minnesota Invitational, the Gophers have three golfers ranked in the Golfweek Top 50 individual rankings. Senior Anna Laorr, coming off a runner-up finish at the Minikahda Club (70-71-74--215, -1), ranks eighth in the nation. Freshmen Sabrine Garrison and Celia Kuenster place 36th and 46th in the rankings, respectively, after four- and five-over-par finishes three weeks ago.
"Right now I think all of our players are ready to get out there and compete in a tournament," Redman added. "They're all working really hard right now. It's going to be tough to be one of the top five, and they're all working hard to be there. As a coach, you can't ask for much more than that."
Founded in 1911, Westmoreland Country Club has played host to the Western Open, the Western Amateur and both the Chicago District Golf Association's Women's Championship and USGA Women's Amateur Championship. The original 1912 course design by William Watson has undergone several renovations, most recently by Arthur Hills in 1993.
Following the tournament in Illinois, the Gophers will head to Texas for the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational next weekend at the UT Golf Club in Austin.
