Maxx Williams has been named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week for the second time this season. The redshirt sophomore caught three touchdown passes in Minnesota's win against Iowa on Saturday. Williams had five receptions, including a diving catch on the sideline, for 46 yards in the game.

Prior to Williams' performance on Saturday, the last Golden Gophers tight end to haul in three touchdown receptions in one game was Ben Utecht against Louisiana-Lafayette in 2002. The last to accomplish that feat in a Big Ten game was Jay Carroll against Ohio State in 1981.

With those three scores, Williams tied Minnesota's sophomore touchdown reception record with seven on the season. He also set the school single-season tight end record.

Williams was named to the John Mackey Award Preseason and Midseason Watch Lists. Semifinalists will be announced next Monday, Nov. 17. The award recipient will be announced on Dec. 10, and the presentation will air live on Dec. 11's Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week, which is separate from the John Mackey Award, was started in 2004 to recognize outstanding individual performances by tight ends during the season. Williams previously received this honor after the Gophers' win at Michigan.
