WCHA Honors Lorence with Weekly Award

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Meghan Lorence has been named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for games Nov. 13-15, 2014 after leading Minnesota with four goals in a road sweep over Ohio State. The Gophers won 4-2 and 5-3 on the road last weekend.
Lorence scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 4-2 win before recording her first career hat trick in Saturday's 5-3 victory. Her four goals included one game-winner, one power-play goal and one shorthanded goal. She finished the series with a plus-three rating and had eight shots on goal and two blocked shots.
In Friday's 4-2 win, Lorence was on the ice for all four Gopher goals, including two power-play tallies. She was plus-two for the game and had one goal on three shots on goal. She netted the Gophers' third goal of the game at 9:58 of the second period to give Minnesota a 3-0 lead.
Lorence then recorded her first career hat trick in Saturday's 5-3 win. She scored back-to-back goals to put the Gophers up 2-0 before sealing the victory with Minnesota's fifth goal, a shorthanded tally. It marked the second shorthanded goal of Lorence's career. She finished the game with three goals on five shots.
Entering the Ohio State series, Lorence had four goals in the first 10 games of the season. She doubled her season total over the weekend with four more goals and now ranks third on the team with eight goals and fifth on the team with 10 points.
Lorene and the Gophers face Minnesota State in a home-and-home series this weekend. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. CT at All Seasons Arena in Mankato, Minn., before the team returns to Ridder Arena for a 4 p.m. CT puck drop on Saturday.
