IOWA CITY, Iowa (GopherSports.com) - Aaron Bartnik set a new personal record in route to First Team All-Big Ten honors on Sunday morning as the Minnesota men's cross country finished seventh at the 2014 Big Ten Cross Country Championship.

"We knew we needed to have a really good race today, and unfortunately we were just a little bit short of where we wanted to be," Minnesota Director of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field Steve Plasencia said. "You know you're going to see some great competition every year at this meet, and now we need to start getting prepared for another great competition coming up at the NCAA regional."

A junior from Eden Prairie, Minn., Bartnik clocked a 23:52.6 on Sunday morning in the eight-kilometer race to finish seventh in the individual standings. The time marks a new personal record for Bartnik, who has led the Gophers in each of his four races this year, and was less than five seconds off a place on Minnesota's top-10 all-time list.

The Gophers also picked up new personal records from true freshman Obsa Ali with a 24:15.5 in 26th place and Adam Zutz with a 24:23.1 in 33rd. Zutz, a junior, has now set a new personal record in each of his last three races.

Christian Skaret finished 43rd for the Maroon & Gold, crossing the finish line at 24:33.3, while Blayne Dulian rounded out the team's scoring for the day in 54th with a time of 24:53.8.

The Gophers totaled 160 points in the 100th running of the Big Ten championship.

Riley Macon (62nd, 25:05.9), Charlie Lawrence (65th, 25:06.8), Brad Woodford (80th, 25:32.5) and Alex Brend (82nd, 25:34.6) also ran for Minnesota but did not factor into the team's scoring on Sunday.

Wisconsin won the Big Ten team title with 47 points while Malachy Schrobilgen of the Badgers won the individual title for the second-straight year with a time of 23:35.0.

Minnesota returns to competition next Friday with the Fall Finale in Collegeville, Minn.
