University of Minnesota head women's golf coach Michele Redman has announced the addition of three student-athletes who signed their National Letters of Intent this month. The trio, who will join the Gophers next summer, are Maggie Heggerston (Pequot Lakes, Minn.), Meagan Rachey (Waconia, Minn.) and Niamh Ward (Lurgan, Northern Ireland).

"With our three signees, we are adding student-athletes who will contribute to the continued success of the Gopher women's golf program," said Redman. "All three are talented individuals who will have an impact on the team when they arrive on campus next fall."

Heggerston was the 2014 Section 7AA Tournament champion this past spring, shattering a state record with a 10-under-par 62 at Pokegama Golf Course during the second round. She ended up winning the individual medal by 26 strokes at 15-under-par 129, helping lead the Pequot Lakes Patriots to the district title. At the state tournament in June, Heggerston fired a even-par 144 (73-70) to finish tied for the individual medalist, leading the team to a second-place finish.

Rachey averaged a 74.6 last season and finished in a tie for sixth at the Class AAA State Tournament in 2014, firing a 150 (76-74) at the two-day event. In January, Rachey finished second at the FCWT at Wigwam, carding a pair of five-over 77 rounds to place two strokes off the leader. She also recorded a third-place finish (80-74-76-230) at the UA/Gary Woodland Championship at Alvamar Country Club in Kansas in June.

Ward will arrive in the Twin Cities with significant experience playing at the international level. She competed for Ireland at the European Girls Championship this past summer along with the British Junior Girls Championship. She finished second at the Ulster Women's Open Championship in August, and placed ninth at the Irish Girls Under 18 Open Stroke Play Championship this past April.
