Gophers Beat Indiana in Three Sets at Home

The University of Minnesota volleyball team defeated Indiana in three sets, 25-18, 25-17, and 25-17 at home Saturday night to improve their overall record to 19-12, and 9-11 in Big Ten play.
Alyssa Goehner led the team in kills with 10 and hit .421, while she added six digs. Paige Tapp had a career-high 12 total blocks in the win and posted seven kills (.538) .Dalianliz Rosado was the overall team leader in digs with seven. Katie Schau had 16 assists in the match, while Erica Handley had 14. As a team, the Gophers hit .289 to Indiana's .099. The Gophers also out blocked the Hoosiers 15-4. Minnesota committed 11 errors in 83 attempts, as Indiana had 27 errors in 101 swings.
Set 1: The Gophers took a 1-0 lead when they had eight kills and eight blocks en route to a 25-18 first set win. Minnesota hit .125, bettering Indiana's .025. Minnesota opened up the first set with a 9-3 lead off a block. The Hoosiers, however, came back and cut the Gopher lead to 14-13. Minnesota responded with a 4-1 run to take an 18-14 lead. As the Gophers took a 20-15 lead, Indiana called a timeout, but Minnesota responded out of the break with two points, one of which was a block from Paige Tapp and Sarah Wilhite. The Gophers would earn their 23rd point on a kill from Paige Tapp, an Indiana attack error for set point and the team's eighth block of the night from Paige and Hannah Tapp for the 25th point.
Set 2: The Gophers hit .320 in the set for a 25-17 second set win. Minnesota started the set with a 14-7 lead, capped off by a Goehner kill. The Hoosiers closed the gap to 16-13 on a kill from Awele Nwaeze. The Gophers would get two points on a Wilhite kill, while she and Molly Lohman added a block for an 18-13 lead. The Gophers pushed the score to 21-15 on two-straight Indiana errors as the Hoosiers called a timeout. Minnesota earned its final four points on a Goehner kill, a Daly Santana/P Tapp block, an Indiana service error and a kill from Hannah Tapp to go up, 2-0.
Set 3: Minnesota had 15 kills and hit .462 in the third set to cap off a 25-17 win. Minnesota had five blocks in the third set, while Santana had six kills in six attempts. Paige Tapp had five kills (one solo, four assists) to accomplish the career high. The Gophers jumped out to a 14-6 lead after kills from Paige Tapp and Santana as Indiana called a timeout. Minnesota added to the lead when it had back-to-back kills from Goehner for a 20-12 lead. Minnesota reached its 22nd point on a block from Santana/P Tapp, and set point on an Indiana attack error. The Gophers closed out the match with a Santana kill, her sixth of the set and eighth of the match. Both seniors Adrianna Nora and Bohl saw action as they closed out their senior careers in regular season finale.
