Maxx Williams has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for District 6. The award honors the nation's top student-athletes for a combination of athletic and academic performance. Winners are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Williams, a redshirt sophomore tight end, currently holds a 3.44 GPA in communication studies. He was named Academic All-Big Ten last season.
On the field, Williams is one of Minnesota's top offensive threats. He leads the team with 17 receptions for 280 yards and four touchdowns. Williams is on the John Mackey Award's midseason watch list, and ranks at or near the top of several statistical categories among Big Ten tight ends.
By making the Academic All-District Team, Williams will be included in voting for Capital One Academic All-America honors. CoSIDA members will select first, second and third team winners later this month.
