MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Head coach Kelly Kremer and the Golden Gophers are heading to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Gators on Saturday, Nov. 8. Both the Minnesota men's and women's teams are coming off dual wins against Iowa last week.
GOPHER-GATOR HISTORY
The Gopher men faced the Florida Gators last season. Minnesota fell to the Gators 172-124, recording their only loss on the season. Minnesota currently stands 1-4 in an overall record against Florida. The Gopher men outscored Florida in 2006 when they won 161-139 in Florida.
"Florida is a strong team," said sophomore Jakub Maly. "It's a great opportunity to swim against some of the best guys in the nation."
The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team has not had a dual against the Florida Gators in recent years. Their last encounter was at the 2014 NCAA Championships where Minnesota placed 10th scoring 136.5 points behind Florida's 6th place finish with 239 points.
IN THE RANKS
The CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) ranks the top 25 Division I teams on a weekly basis, alternating between men's and women's teams.
The Minnesota women are currently ranked tenth in the nation and have a 4-0 record on the 2014-15 season. In comparison, the Gator women are ranked number eleven behind the Gophers.
Most recent rankings have the Gopher men as nineteenth in the nation. Their 3-1 record includes a close loss to Wisconsin at the beginning of the season. The CSCAA has the Florida men ranked fifth in the U.S.
