Gophers Fall in Three to Michigan

Minnesota's kill leader was Daly Santana, who had 13 kills in 33 attempts, while Alyssa Goehner had 11 kills in 26 attempts. Hannah Tapp hit .308 with five kills in 13 swings. Katie Schau had 27 assists, while Goehner also led with eight digs.
Michigan held a 46-40 kill advantage and a 46-29 dig advantage. The Gophers had seven blocks to Michigan's four.
Minnesota returns home for the first time in four matches as it hosts Northwestern, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The match will be streamed on BTN Plus.
Set 1: The two teams tied seven times and exchanged three leads before Michigan pulled away for a 25-20 first set win. After a narrow 12-11 lead for the Gophers, Michigan went up, 18-15, before Minnesota came back and tied the set, 20-20 on a block from Schau and Hannah Tapp. Michigan, however, would go up 22-20 and finished off the set, 25-21. Michigan hit .256 in the set to Minnesota's .190. Goehner had seven kills in the first set in 13 attempts.
Set 2: Michigan took a 2-0 lead on a 25-18 second set win. As the two teams were tied 10-10, Michigan used a 7-1 run to push the score and the lead to 16-11. Paige Tapp cut the lead to 21-16 on a kill, but Michigan finished off the set with a kill from Abby Cole, a Wolverine ace and a kill from Lexi Dannemiller for a 2-0 lead. The Wolverines hit .290 in the set, while they held Minnesota to .176. Minnesota added another two blocks, but Michigan had a 73 percent sideout ratio, bettering the 57 percent in the first set.
Set 3: Minnesota and Michigan tied all the way through till the 16-16 score before Michigan went on a 4-0 run to push the lead to 20-16. Minnesota took a timeout at 18-16 when the Gophers committed an attack error. The Wolverines, however, came out of the break and added another kill from Abby Cole, while the Gophers committed another attack error for the four-point swing. Minnesota had a kill from Santana to put the score at 23-18, but a Gopher service error pushed it to match point. The Wolverines earned the win off a Lexi Dannemiller kill to end the match. The Wolverines hit a match-best .303, while the Gophers hit .235, also their match best.
