Paige Tapp Garners All-Big Ten Honors

University of Minnesota sophomore Paige Tapp has been named an All-Big Ten Volleyball selection, announced today by the conference office. It marks the first all-conference award in Tapp's career. Junior Daly Santana received All-Big Ten honorable mention and was also the University of Minnesota's sportsmanship award recipient.
A 6-foot, 1-inch middle blocker, Tapp is one of four middles to garner All-Big Ten honors. Tapp played in all 31 matches and 110 of 111 sets for the Golden Gophers this season. As a middle, Tapp hit over .400 in 14 matches and had four matches where she posted more than 10 total blocks. She ranked first on the team in hitting effiency at .354, which ranked sixth in the Big Ten as she had 222 kills in 486 attempts. Named a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, Tapp led the Big Ten Conference in blocks per set. As the league's best blocker, Tapp averaged 1.55 blocks per set, and against conference opponents she finished the regular season with 1.65 blocks per set. After seeing action in only 21 sets as a freshman, Tapp came on as a sophomore and finished her season as the third-best blocker nationally.
Santana, a 6-foot outside hitter, was a Gopher captain in 2014 and added a team-high 425 kills. She ranked second in the Big Ten in points per set (4.47), third in kills per set (3.90) and fourth in aces per set (0.33). A six-rotation player, Santana recorded eight double-doubles on the season and led the Gophers in kill for 20 matches this season. She also had 10 matches where she had at least 10 digs this season. Named the Diet Coke Classic MVP, Santana also was a three-time all-tournament selection.
