THE OPENING TIP - QUICK NOTES
• The University of Minnesota women's basketball team returns to Williams Arena Sunday night for a 6 p.m. contest versus Butler. The game will serve as Kayla Hirt Bemidji Community Night, Joanna Hedstrom Minnetonka Community and Youth Night, with discounted tickets offered when purchased in advance.
• The game will be streamed live on BTN Plus, while fans can listen to the Gopher Women's Basketball radio team of Corbu Stathes and Lynnette Sjoquist on 1500 ESPN. Live stats will be available on Gophersports.com and live updates can be found on the Gophers' official twitter page - @GophersWBB. 7
• Butler is coming off a 57-49 win over Wright State on Friday night, in which three players scored in double figures, led by 18 points from Blaire Langlois.
• The Gophers and the Bulldogs will be facing off for just the second time on Sunday, with Minnesota holding the 1-0 advantage in the all-time series.
• The Maroon and Gold defeated Butler, 114-65, in its 2001-02 season opener on Nov. 17, 2001.
• Amanda Zahui B. posted a double-double with a season-high 21 points, which included nine-straight free throws down the stretch, and 12 rebounds to lead the Gophers to a 60-55 victory at NC State Wednesday night in the ACC/B1G Challenge.
• With its win over NC State, Minnesota improved its record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge to 4-4, which includes back-to-back wins vs. the Wolfpack and last season against Miami (Fla.).
• For just the second time in the history of the ACC/B1G Challenge, the two conference tied the series this season, 7-7. The Big Ten held a 5-3 advantage following Wednesday's action, but the ACC made up the difference on the second night of competition.
• The Gophers are receiving two votes in this week's Associated Press Top-25 Poll.
• In three games played at Williams Arena this season, Minnesota is averaging 103 points per game and is outscoring its opponents by an average of 37.0 points.
• The Maroon and Gold also boasts a rebounding average of 56.3 boards per game at home this season, while outrebounding its opponents by an average of 14.0 rebounds per game.
• Currently boasting 228 career three-pointers, senior Rachel Banham needs just three triples to become Minnesota's career leader in the category.
• The senior also needs just 148 points to take over as the Gophers' all-time leading scorer.
• Amanda Zahui B. has posted three or more blocks in five of the Gophers' first eight games this season, with her 3.4 blocks-per-game average ranking second in the Big Ten and eighth nationally.
• UP NEXT: Minnesota wraps up its non-conference road schedule Wednesday, Dec. 10 at North Dakota. The road contest is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Fox Sports North.
