Brandt, Pannek Honored by WCHA

MINNEAPOLIS - Junior Hannah Brandt and freshman Kelly Pannek have been named WCHA Players of the Week for their play in Minnesota's 12-0 and 7-0 wins over St. Cloud State last weekend.
WCHA Offensive Player of the Week: Hannah Brandt
Brandt has earned her second WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award of the season after leading the Gophers with nine points (two goals, seven assists) against the Huskies. For the series, she had five shots on goal, was plus-seven and won 27 of 31 faceoffs (.871).
In Friday's 12-0 win, Brandt tied a Gopher program record with seven points and set a new program record with six assists. Both numbers marked career-game highs for the junior.
With her nine-point weekend, Brandt is tied for fifth in career assists (112), ranks eighth all-time in career points (184) and is tied for 10th in career goals (72) among Gophers all-time. Brandt's nine-point weekend tied her career-best points in a series, matching her nine-point effort against Colgate in her first series as a Gopher.
Brandt (16g-21a) is the current WCHA scoring leader with 37 total points, 16 goals and 21 assists. She ranks in the top four in the NCAA in total points (second), points per game (third), total goals (tied for second), goals per game (third), total assists (second) and assists per game (fourth). Brandt is on a four-game point streak (4g-9a), during which she averages 3.25 points per game.
WCHA Rookie of the Week: Kelly Pannek
Pannek picked up the second Rookie of the Week award of her career after recording a career-best six assists against St. Cloud State. Pannek had a career game-high four assists in Friday's 12-0 win and added two more assists in Saturday's 7-0 victory. She set up both game-winning goals, won 16 of 23 faceoffs (.696), was plus-four and had one shot on goal. Pannek was on the ice for seven Gophers goals total for the series.
Pannek is on a career-best five-game point streak, during which she has 12 points (3g-9a) and averages 2.40 points per game. She now has 20 points on the season on four goals and 16 assists. Pannek ranks second in scoring among WCHA rookies, averaging 1.05 points per game, and is tied for second in the nation among rookies with 20 points.
Brandt, Pannek and the Gophers (16-1-2, 9-1-2-0 WCHA) now have a four-week break from competition, returning to action to host St. Lawrence (8-6-2, 5-3-1 ECAC Hockey) on Sunday, Jan. 4 and Tuesday, Jan. 6.
