Final Stats | Frost Postgame

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The No. 1 Minnesota women's hockey team used two power-play goals from freshman forward Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) to earn a 3-1 win and a road series sweep over No. 3/4 North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena Saturday night.

In addition to Cameranesi's two-goal effort, sophomore Hannah Brandt (Vadnais Heights, Minn.) and senior Kelly Terry (Whitby, Ont.) each had two assists, and junior Meghan Lorence (Mounds View, Minn.) added the Gophers' third goal of the game to extend her current goal streak to six games.

"To complete the sweep with a 3-1 win here tonight was really big for our team," head coach Brad Frost said. "Getting six points on the road in a hostile environment against a very good team was good for us. I'm looking forward to getting home and having a good week of practice to get ready for Bemidji State coming in."

Minnesota (26-1-1, 20-1-1-0 WCHA) scored one goal in each period with the first two coming off the stick of Cameranesi on the Gophers' first two power plays of the game.

Lorence extended the Gophers' lead to 3-0 at the 4:25 mark of the third period before North Dakota (16-7-3, 13-6-3-2 WCHA) got on the board with a goal by Gracen Hirschy with 3:33 remaining in the game.

Minnesota went two-for-five on the power-play after a perfect three-for-three effort with the man advantage in Friday's 5-1 win. Cameranesi's two power-play goals tonight move her into a tie for the national lead with seven on the year.

The Gophers held UND scoreless on two power-play opportunities while limiting their opponents to just two power-play shots.

"Our power play was clicking and did a lot of nice things," Frost said. "After that first period when we were a little undisciplined, we really cleaned that up in the second and third."

Minnesota outshot North Dakota, 42-18, for the game, including a 10-5 advantage in the first period. Sophomore goaltender Amanda Leveille (Kingston, Ont.) made 17 saves, while Shelby Amsley-Benzie stopped 39 pucks for UND.

The Gophers return home to host Bemidji State at Ridder Arena next weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 4:07 p.m. CT Saturday.
