MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 12 University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team scored a season-high and recorded the second-highest score in school history to cap off its regular home meet schedule with a 197.250-193.725 victory over Iowa State. The Gophers won all four events in order to improve their record to 14-1 on the season.
Sophomore Lindsay Mable was able to put together a 39.625 all-around score to break the school record and lead the Gophers to victory. Junior Cierra Tomson had an all-around score of 39.375, her best of the season, to help push the Gophers to their season-best score.
The Gophers started the meet with a 49.375 lead over Iowa State on vault as senior Kayla Slechta led the way with a 9.950, with Mable (9.900) and junior Kylie Chermann (9.875) following close behind in the first rotation.
Minnesota would go on to stretch its lead after the second rotation on bars as Madie Hanley and Cierra Tomson scored a 9.925 to lead the Golden Gophers. Bailie Holst and Lindsay Mable also posted noteable scores for the Gophers as they rounded out the top three in that event.
The third rotation brought Minnesota to the balance beam where the team entered a 49.075 event score led by Mable with a 9.925 followed by Michelle Shealy of Iowa State and Minnesota senior Dusti Russell.
The final rotation, Minnesota's strongest, would seal the deal as the Gophers would enter a 49.425 overall event score with strong performances by Mable, Schermann and Russell on floor exercise. Mable would post a 9.950 to add to her record breaking all-around score.
The Gophers would finish the meet with a season-best 197.250.
After the meet concluded the Gophers honored seniors Russell, Slechta, and Justine Cherwink who had just completed their final regular season meet at the Sports Pavilion.
Next weekend, the Gophers will travel to Denton, Texas to take on Texas Woman's University, Oklahoma and Michigan State at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon.
