FRENCH LICK, Ind. (Gophersports.com) - After one round of play at the 2014 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships, the University of Minnesota sits in sixth place - eight shots back of team leader Ohio State - with two rounds of play left at the conference meet.

The Gophers fired a 309 (19 over par) in the opening round at the Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort while Ohio State (301), Nebraska (302), Michigan State (305), Penn State (306) and Northwestern (307) fill out the top five after 18 holes of play. Minnesota holds a five shot lead over Iowa (314) in seventh, with Purdue (315), Wisconsin (316), Illinois (316), Michigan (317) and Indiana (322) rounding out the 12-team competition.

Sarinee Thitiratanakorn paced the Gophers on Friday with a 75 (three over par), finding herself in a seven-way tie for fifth at the Big Ten meet. The Gopher is just three shots off the pace of current individual leader Cassidy Stelzmiller of Nebraska (72).

Minnesota's Carmen Laguna, Anna Laorr and Banchalee Theinthong are all part of an eight-way tie for 20th after shooting a 78 (six over par) to open the three-day tournament.

Freshmen Sophie Kitchen (83, 11 over par) and Emie Peronnin (84, 12 over par) round out the Gophers contingency in Indiana, in 60th and tied for 61st, respectively.

The second round of the 2014 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships is set for Saturday morning at 8 a.m. CT.
