ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Gophersports.com) - University of Minnesota incoming freshman Heather Ciskowski claimed her first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title on Thursday at the 2014 AJGA Midwest Junior Players Championship at Mistwood Golf Club.
The Barrington, Ill., native carded a three-day total of nine-over-par 225 to capture the title including a one-under-par 71 in Thursday's final round to come from behind for the win. Ciskowski shot her best round of the tournament on Thursday to overtake a five-way tie for first through two rounds. The incoming Gophers freshman opened with an 81 on Tuesday and improved with a 73 on Wednesday.
"I knew I had to start out really well to give myself a chance today," Ciskowski said. "Throughout the round I just stayed focused, and it just got a little easier as the day went on. It's nice to end on a win because I've had a great run and I'm excited to begin my college career."
Ciskowski is one of three freshmen joining the Gophers next season along with Cretin-Derham Hall graduate Celia Kuenster and Calgary, Alberta native Sabrine Garrison.
