Laorr Second After Day One at Minnesota Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Anna Laorr carded a pair of below-par rounds to pace the Minnesota women's golf team on Monday at its home tournament, the Minnesota Invitational at the par-72 Minikahda Club. Following 36 holes on the opening day of the Gophers' 2014-15 season, Laorr sits second on the individual leaderboard at -3 (70-71-141), as the Gophers are eighth on the team leaderboard at +34 (311-299-610).
Freshman Celia Kuenster, making her collegiate debut, ended the day tied for 12th at +5 (74-75-149). Senior Sarinee Thitiratanakorn cut seven strokes between rounds, finishing tied for 62nd at 161 (84-77), while senior Carmen Laguna (87-76--163) and sophomore Sophie Kitchen (83-80-163) each finished in a tie for 68th, Laguna doing so by shaving 11 strokes from the first to second round.
East Carolina leads the team standings at +5 (294-287-581), with the Pirates' Frida Gustafsson Spang atop the leaderboard at -9 (69-66-135).
Competing individually, freshman Sabrine Garrison turned in the third-best performance of the day at even par, with a two-under 70 followed up by a two-over-par 74. Sophomore Emie Peronnin sits tied for 50th at +13 (80-77-157), freshman Heather Ciskowski (83-79-162) is in a tie for 66th at +18, while sophomore Alexandra Buska rounded out the Gopher competitors at +34 (85-89-174), ranked 74th.
Laorr and Garrison finished the opening round tied for second with a two-under 70. Kuenster, making her collegiate debut, fired a 74 (+2) to tie for eighth, rounding out the trio of Gophers in the top-10 after 18 holes. Peronnin shot a +8 to tie for 48th in the first round, while Kitchen and Ciskowski (+11) both tied for 64th following the opening round. Thitiratanakorn shot an 84 (+12), Buska finished with a 85, and Laguna shot a 87 for the Gophers in the first round.
As a team, the Gophers stood tied with Fresno State for 10th (311, +23) after the first round.
The 2014 Minnesota Invitational concludes Tuesday, beginning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start.
