MINNEAPOLIS - Redshirt junior Kelly Flynn enters her third season competing for the Gopher women's track & field team in 2014-15. She hopes to build off a strong 2014 season, which saw her set personal best marks in two events.
Flynn, a Greenfield, Wis., native, set a career-best long jump of 18-09.75 (5.73m) to place third at UC San Diego last spring. She also set indoor personal-best marks of 8.04 seconds in the 60-meter dash and 18-00.25 (5.49m) in the indoor long jump. An elementary education major, Flynn looks forward to becoming a teacher following her Gopher career.

What's your best memory with the team so far?
My best memory so far is the trip to San Diego this past season.

My career goal is to become an elementary school teacher. I have wanted to be a teacher my entire life, and I aspire to be a great teacher who can really connect with the students.
How did you choose the University of Minnesota?
I fell in love with the beautiful campus and thought it was a good distance away from home (six hours). I also attended Coach Bingle's camp in high school and really liked his style of coaching and recruiting.
How did you first get into track & field?
I have been competing in track & field since sixth grade and have always loved the sport.
Were you involved in any other sports growing up?
Yes, I was involved in soccer, volleyball and basketball. I played volleyball and basketball in addition to track & field all through high school and loved them all.
What do you think makes being a Gopher so special?
I love having other awesome Gophers around me. Being part of this team has been an amazing experience.
What are you most looking forward to about the 2014-15 season?
I really look forward to improving in my long jump, and I hope for the team to have a great year and place top three in the Big Ten.
