Gophers Win in Five Over Boston College

Minnesota posted 15 blocks in the match and had 65 kills. The Gophers went from hitting a -.184 to coming back and hitting .524 in the fifth set to win the match.
Although Daly Santana had 17 kills and 10 digs, the Gophers were also paced by Hannah and Paige Tapp as they each hit .318 and had 12 kills. Hannah had a match-high nine blocks, while Paige added six. Erica Handley, who came in off the bench after the second set, established 30 assists. Adrianna Nora added 11 kills and hit .303. Sarah Wilhite also had a double double when she produced 10 kills and 14 digs. Dalianliz Rosado held a team-high 17 digs.
Set 1: Minnesota had 13 attack errors in the first set as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead on a 25-12 win. Boston College's Katty Workman had four kills in the set, while the team as a whole, hit .231. The Eagles posted four team blocks to Minnesota's one for the early lead. Minnesota had six kills in 38 attempts. The Eagles' set win included a 7-1 run to put the score at 16-8. Boston College then finished the set with a 9-4 run.
Set 2: Despite four kills from Santana, Paige Tapp and Nora in the second set, the Gophers fell, 25-22 and took a 2-0 lead. BC had 12 kills to Minnesota's 16, but Minnesota held another 10 attack errors. After a 14-10 Minnesota lead, Boston College responded with a 6-0 run and a 16-14 lead. The Eagles then went up 20-16 before Minnesota took a timeout. The Gophers closed the deficit to 22-20 on a kill from Santana, but the Eagles reached set point on a kill from Anna Skold and won on a kill from Sol Calvete to go up, 2-0.
Set 3: Erica Handley came off the bench and had 11 assists as the Gophers hit .333 in the third set en route to a 25-18 set win. Handley had 11 assists in the third set. Santana had five kills in nine attempts, while Hannah Tapp added four in four attempts. In all, Minnesota had 15 kills to Boston College's nine. Minnesota started the set on an 8-3 run as BC took a timeout. The Gophers added to their lead at 15-8 when Hannah Tapp and Sarah Wilhite combined for one of the team's four blocks in the set. Nora added an ace for a 19-11 Gopher lead, while Paige Tapp added a kill for a 21-12 lead. The Gophers closed out the set with a kill from Santana and a bad set from BC to cut the Eagles' set lead to one.
Set 4: The Gophers added another five blocks in the fourth set to tie up the match on a 25-15 win. Handley had two kills and 11 assists, while Paige Tapp added three kills in four attempts and three blocks. As a team, the Gophers hit .278. Minnesota took a 12-8 to start the fourth set. The Eagles attempted to stop the run at 10-4, but the Gophers continued to pour on the pressure with a a 14-6 lead on a block from Hannah Tapp and Santana. Nora put the score at 18-11 on a kill, while Wilhite improved the Gopher lead to 22-13 on an ace. the Gophers closed out the set with a kill from Hannah Tapp, an error by BC and a kill from Hannah Tapp to tie the match.
Set 5: Minnesota closed out the match by hitting .524 in the fifth set as the Gophers had 12 kills in 21 attempts and just one error. Santana added another four kills in six swings, while the Tapp sisters combined for five kills and two blocks. A tight set throughout, Minnesota reached the eighth point first when Santana provided a kill from Rosado. Tied at 8-8, Minnesota took control of the set on another kill from Santana and held onto the lead the remainder of the set. Handley and Paige Tapp combined for a block and a 13-11 lead. Santana put it at set point and followed with her 17th kill of the match on the final play.
