Team / Series Notes
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Tonight's game was the 183rd all-time meeting in men's basketball between Minnesota and Iowa, with the Gophers holding a 97-86 lead in the series (not counting vacated games). Minnesota has a 59-33 edge in games played in Minneapolis.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Tonight's loss was the first at home against the Hawkeyes since a 64-62 setback on Jan. 4, 2012. Minnesota has won five of the past seven against Iowa at The Barn.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Head coach Richard Pitino's record at Minnesota fell to 36-20, while his three-year overall record now stands at 54-34.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Coach Pitino's record fell to 1-2 against Iowa, and is now 9-16 versus teams from the Big Ten.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ The Gophers, who entered the game ranked second nationally in steals per game (11.4), came up with just six steals versus the Hawkeyes.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Minnesota rallied from a 17-point deficit with 15:31 remaining to take the lead with 6:21 remaining.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Four Minnesota players reached double figures for points, and six of the eight players who played in the game for the Gophers scored points.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ The Gophers made 9-of-25 (.360) three-pointers, including 6-of-11 (.545) in the second half, and have had six or more treys made in 16 of the past 17 games.
Individual Notes
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Junior guard Carlos Morris came off the bench to lead the team with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. It is the second career 20-point game for Morris, and four off his career-high of 24.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Freshman guard Nate Mason scored 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while adding four assists and four rebounds in his first collegiate start.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Senior forward Maurice Walker had nine points and a team-high seven rebounds in a reserve role for the Gophers.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Senior guard DeAndre Mathieu came off the bench for the Gophers and scored 11 points, while dishing out a team-best five assists.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Senior guard Andre Hollins finished with seven points and four rebounds. Hollins' career point total now stands at 1,533, as he remains seventh on Minnesota's all-time list.
Ć¢ā¬Ā¢ Junior forward Joey King scored 11 points, which included a team-best three treys.
