MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 23 University of Minnesota (15-2, 4-1) women's basketball team returns to Williams Arena Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. meeting with Indiana (12-4, 2-3) on BTN. Lisa Byington and Stephanie White will be on the call for the live television broadcast, while the game can also be heard on 1500 ESPN. Live stats will be available on Gophersports.com and live updates will be provided on the Gophers' official Twitter page - @GophersWBB.
Sunday's contest will serve as Alumni Day for the Golden Gophers, with former players invited to attend a pregame social in the M Club Room at TCF Bank Stadium, before being honored on the court at halftime, including a special recognition for the members of the 2005 NCAA Sweet Sixteen team. It will also be Carlie Wagner Community Day, with the rookie set to sign autographs following the contest, and High School Day. All high school girl's basketball teams that submit their roster in advance will receive complimentary admission to the game.
The Maroon and Gold is coming off a 76-72 win at Ohio State Thursday night that gave the Gophers their sixth-straight road victory and put them in a tie for second place in Big Ten standings with a 4-1 league record. It was just the third win in Columbus for Minnesota in 28 contests and gave the Gophers two-straight road victories against the Buckeyes for the first time in program history.
The six-game road winning streak for Minnesota is the fourth-longest in the NCAA this season, trailing only Louisville (W9), Princeton (W8) and Long Beach State (W7). It is also the longest road-win streak for the Maroon and Gold since picking up seven-straight road wins during the 2002-03 season. It is also the most road wins for the Gophers since 2008-09, when they tallied seven road wins, including five in the Big Ten and one in the NCAA Tournament.
Indiana has also had some success on the road this season, as it enters Sunday's contest with a 3-1 road record. The Hoosiers' only away loss came at the hands of Purdue, 86-64, on Jan. 4 at Mackey Arena, which has been the team's only road contest in Big Ten play. Beginning with Sunday's game at Minnesota, Indiana will play three of its next four games on the road.
The Gophers hold a 34-27 advantage in the all-time series against the Hoosiers and have eight of the teams' last 11 meetings. Each of the Maroon and Gold's three losses during that stretch came in overtime, which included an 83-78 road loss in overtime last season. But, the Gophers would bounce back to get a 73-62 victory at Williams Arena later in the year. Minnesota holds an 18-10 record in Minneapolis when taking on the Hoosiers, with nine of those wins coming since 2002.
