The Top 10.0 Things You Need to Know

1.0 - The No. 11 Minnesota women's gymnastics team will resume competition on Saturday, Jan. 17 when the Gophers host top-ranked Oklahoma at the Sports Pavilion. The meet between the two ranked teams will be streamed live from the Sports Pavilion via BTN Plus at 4 p.m. CT. Stats can be found by visiting the Gophers live scoring page. 2.0 - After opening the 2015 season with a victory over No. 25 Iowa State, the Maroon and Gold traveled to College Park, Md. for their first Big Ten competition of the season. Despite winning three of the four events, the Gophers fell to the unranked Maryland Terrapins, 194.325-193.350. Both teams had multiple missteps throughout the competition but Maryland prevailed leading the entirety of the meet.

3.0 - On Saturday, the University of Minnesota campus will be busy with numerous athletic events occuring at the same time. Fans are encouraged to plan ahead as traffic and parking will be heavier than usual. Men's basketball will host Rutgers at 11 a.m. at Williams Arena, track and field will host the Minnesota Open in the fieldhouse, men's tennis will host both Marquette and South Dakota State at Baseline while men's hockey finishes a weekend of competition against border rival, Wisconsin. Please plan accordingly to support the Maroon and Gold.

4.0 - In the latest national poll, Minnesota moved up six spots to No. 11 after defeating then-No. 25 Iowa State in the first weekend of competition. The Gophers are one of seven Big Ten teams in the Top 25.

5.0 - Junior Lindsay Mable earned Co-Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after leading her team to victory last Saturday against No. 25 Iowa State. The Aurora, Colo. native scored a 39.450 in the all-around competition and won two event titles in the Gophers' first outing. Mable ranks in the top three gymnasts for individual all-around score and her 9.900 on floor exercise places her in the top ten in the national rankings released on Jan. 12. Mable earned a second all-around crown on Thursday against Maryland as well as two event titles to bring her season total to four.

6.0 - Former Gopher gymnast Jenny Hansen made her head coaching debut when the Gophers host Iowa State last weekend. The Ripon, Wis. native competed for the Maroon and Gold from 2000-2003 and has served in numerous positions within the program. University of Alabama standout Geralen Stack-Eaton and local club coach Rich Stenger have rounded out Hansen's staff and have been hard at work in prepartion for the Gophers' 2015 campaign.



7.0 - The Gophers returned 9 gymnasts from 2014 including two-time All-American and Big Ten all-around Champion, Lindsay Mable, as well as Gopher standouts in seniors Jenny Covers and Cierra Tomson. Minnesota had a successful 2014 season where they won their second consecutive Big Ten regular season title and advanced to the NCAA Regional held at the University of Minnesota. Minnesota welcomed five new members to the family at the beginning of the academic year. Freshmen Abby DeMuse, Bailey Gardner, Ciara Gardner, Hannah Hitchcock and Rachel Rowland will make their regular season debut when the Gophers host Iowa State on Saturday. At the annual intrasquad meet, Gardner placed third in the all-around and DeMuse finished in a tie for second place on the bars (9.750) and fourth on floor (9.750).



8.0 - The Maroon and Gold will host six home meets during the 2015 season including the Big Ten Qualifier featuring Iowa, Michigan, Penn State and Rutgers on March 14. Last season, six Big Ten teams finished the 2014 season ranked in the top 25 teams in the country. Minnesota finished the season ranked 14th nationally.



9.0 - The back-to-back Big Ten Conference regular season champions were tabbed to place fifth in the Big Ten this season. Juniors Lindsay Mable and Madeline Hanley were named as gymnasts to watch this season. The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team earned the coveted top spot in the coaches' poll while No. 2 Nebraska and No. 3 Illinois round out the top three. Minnesota will match up with Maryland on Thursday. The Terrapins earned the seventh place spot in the preseason poll.
