MINNEAPOLIS (Gophersports.com) - The University of Minnesota track & field program and Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Steve Plasencia have announced that seniors Mark Jennings, Blayne Dulian and Justin Barber will serve as team captains for the 2015 track & field team.
"As a program, we are very proud to name Mark Jennings, Blayne Dulian and Justin Barber as our team captains for the upcoming season," Plasencia said. "All three are terrific representatives of the University of Minnesota and Gopher Athletics. They've all shown great dedication to our program in the classroom and in competition and will be great leaders for us this season."
A senior from Coon Rapids, Minn., Dulian represented the Gophers at the Big Ten indoor and outdoor meets as well as the NCAA West Prelims last season. The Academic All-Big Ten honoree is a member of Minnesota's distance group and won the mile run at the Bill Bergan Invitational as a junior - one of eight top-10 finishes on the year for Dulian. Dulian also served as captain of the cross country team this season.
A senior from Marion, Iowa, Jennings combined for 15 top-10 finishes between the indoor and outdoor seasons last year and competed at both Big Ten meets and the NCAA West Prelims. The Gophers thrower won the shot put competition at the Mark Messersmith Invitational and was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
A senior from Mequon, Wis., Barber posted 18 top-10 finishes between the indoor and outdoor seasons last year and, like his fellow captains, competed at both Big Ten meets and the NCAA West Prelims. The thrower won the weight throw at the Jack Johnson Classic for his best finish of the season.
The Gophers kick off the 2015 season this Saturday with the Northwest Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
