Maroon Takes Steak `n' Beans Series, 3-2

The Maroon squad locked up the annual Steak 'n' Beans series with a 9-3 win in the fourth game to take a 3-1 advantage in the series. With the annual fall matchup decided, the Gold team grabbed a 9-6 decision in the fifth and final contest.
In the fourth game, Maroon smacked 13 hits coming from eight different players in an offensive onslaught. Dan Motl touted a 3-for-3 performance at the dish with three RBI. Eddie Estrada, Jeff Fasching and Ben Mezzenga chimed in with two hits each.
Ty McDevitt got the win on the mound for the Maroon contingent after relieving starter Tim Shannon with 2.1 solid innings, allowing only one hit and adding two strikeouts. Brian Glowicki earned the save by going the final 1.2 innings and striking out a pair.
The Grey squad was paced by Riley Smith, who went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Terrin Vavra stole a base and contributed an RBI single in the game.
Dalton Sawyer hurled 3.0 innings without allowing a hit or an earned run and notched two strikeouts.
In the series finale, Micah Coffey led the charge at the plate for the Gold team after going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Jordan Smith also added two hits and one RBI. Cole McDevitt plated two more runs and came across once himself.
After allowing six runs through five innings, Gold turned to Cody Campbell and Sawyer to close out the final three innings. Both pitchers combined for three scoreless innings and allowed just two hits with four strikeouts.
The top of the order for Maroon produced at the plate as No. 1-5 in the lineup went 7-for-17. Austin Athmann, Alex Boxwell and Connor Schaefbauer each tallied two-hit performances. Athmann plated three runs and laced a homer, while Schaefbauer contributed with a pair of doubles.
Lucas Gilbreath got the nod on the mound and was relieved by Nick Lackney, Shannon and Sawyer, who swapped jerseys to get the final out.
The Gophers wrap up the fall season with practice and will announce the spring schedule in the coming weeks.
