Records Fall in Las Vegas

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - All six Gophers finished at par or better during the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, with the Minnesota women's golf team placing 13th as the tournament wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Sophomore Sabrine Garrison finished off a record-setting three days as she posted a final score of 10-under-par 206 (69-68-69), tying for 10th place. She set a new school record for lowest 54-hole score, eclipsing Teresa Puga's 208 set in 2011 at the UCF Challenge. Garrison also paced the Gophers to a new team 54-hole record of 851, 12 strokes better than the current mark which was set last year in Las Vegas. The Gophers also set a new 36-hole mark of 567, again besting last fall's Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown which stood as the record by one stroke.
"Sabrine's performance this week was outstanding," said head coach Michele Redman. "This tournament was a great finish to the fall season, and we hope the momentum carries into the spring."
Junior Emie Peronnin (72-72-72-216) and sophomore Heather Ciskowski (72-73-71-216) followed in the Gopher lineup as the duo both tied for 53rd place at even par. Sophomore Celia Kuenster (76-70-72-218) and freshman Muyu Wu (71-75-72-218) were both two strokes back in a tie for 68th place at two-over-par.
Freshman Maggie Heggerston competed individually and tied for 94th after a final round that saw her dip below par for the first time as a collegian (77-76-71-224).
As a team, the Gophers finished 13th with a score of 851 (284-283-284), 13 strokes below par.
Host UNLV tied Vanderbilt for top team honors at -33, while Tennessee's Anna Newell earned medalist honors at 18-under-par.
The tournament concludes the Gophers' fall season, as they will not return to competition until February 7-9 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
