MINNEAPOLIS - Four Gophers have been recognized for their success on the pitch and in the classroom on Thursday, as the 2015-16' Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Taylor Stainbrook, Rashida Beal, Rachel McCloskey and Josee Stiever were named to this year's Capital One Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team.
Stainbrook, a redshirt senior from Apple Valley, Minn. has notched two goals and one assist in the regular-season with seven career goals and assists. During her freshman year at NDSU, Stainbrook was named to the Summit League All-Freshman Team as well as named to the league's Fall All-Academic Team as a Distinguished Scholar. The Communication Studies major boasts a 3.58 GPA and has appeared in every game since transferring from NSDU.
Beal, a junior from Germantown, Wis. majoring in Psychology with a 3.92 GPA stymied the Nebraska and Iowa attacks to help lead a sweep of back-to-back shutouts this season. Beal is a key piece in the Gophers defense that has collected nine shutouts on the year. She has started in each of the Gophers' regular-season games, continuing her streak from last season, never missing a starting position on defense.
McCloskey, a sophomore from Runnels, Iowa notched one goal in the Gophers' 9-1 victory over Nebraska-Omaha. She came back from an injury she sustained last year to start in each of Minnesota's games on the season as a key piece in the Gophers' midfield presence. As a freshman, she broke Auburn's 300-minute shutout streak and scored the equalizer to avoid a shutout in the 2-1 loss against Michigan last season. The Sport Management major carried a 3.83 GPA and was named to the 2014 Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Stiever, a junior Communication Studies major with a 3.42 GPA tallied four goals and four assists in the regular-season. Stiever carries 13 goals and nine career assists. The Cedarburg, Wis. native was named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list two years in a row and has made appearances in all of the Gophers' games since her freshman campaign. This season, Stiever fed two assists in the 3-0 win over NDSU and within the first five minutes of play in the 3-1 win over Purdue.
