Five Gophers have been named NFCA All-American Scholar-Athletes for the 2014-15 academic year joining over 5,000 student-athletes among seven membership divisions, released by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tuesday.
To receive the honor, a student-athlete had to maintain 3.5 grade point average (GPA) throughout the 2014-15 school year. NCAA Div. I, with 1,554 honorees, had the most student-athletes reach this achievement.
Erica Meyer led the way with the team's highest GPA. Fellow 2014-15 seniors Hannah Granger and Madie Eckstrom also made the list joined by Ellie Cowger and Sydney Dwyer accomplishing the feat as freshmen.
The Gophers have continued to be as strong in the classroom as they have been on the field the past couple years. A program record fourteen players earned Academic All-B1G Honors this past season.
Meyer and Granger both were named First Team Academic All-District earlier this year while Meyer was also named an Academic All-American.
