Gophers Win Twice To End Fall Ball

The University of Minnesota Gophers wrapped up their fall season with two run rule victories over the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs.
First Game: Gophers 8, Bulldogs 0
In four innings of work Sara Groenewegen struck out seven batters while not allowing a hit and Kylie Stober finished off the game in the fifth to keep the no hitter.
The Gophers had eight hits in the game with Sydney Dwyer and Kayla Wenner each contributing two.
Sam Macken took the first pitch she was thrown and drove it to left center for a leadoff home run. Sydney Fabian later hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run and Dwyer hit a two RBI single to give the Maroon and Gold a 4-0 lead after the first inning.
Dwyer brought in two more runs in the bottom of the third inning with a double to left center to bring in Fabian and Paige Palkovich. Dwyer and Wenner would each come home later in the inning for the Gophers final runs.
Second Game: Gophers 15, Bulldogs 3
The Gophers bats were on fire with 15 hits for 15 runs in the second game of the evening. Macken went 4-4 with three singles and a triple with Groenewegen, Brandi McGregor, Palkovich and Maddie Houlihan all having a multiple hit game as well.
Minnesota started the game down 3-2 after the first inning but brought in four runs in the second and never slowed down after. The highlight of the second inning was a launch of a home run from Groenewegen to left field.
The third inning saw the Gophers score seven more runs with big doubles from both Groenewegen and Houlihan. Minnesota went through their line up in the inning.
McGregor added a boom of her own in the fourth inning with a leadoff home run. Freshman Jessie Isham hit a triple to bring in fellow freshman Houlihan for the games final run.
Nikki Anderson picked up the win on the mound in the second game going three innings with Stober pitching the final two.
