MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's gymnastics program announced the signing of Timothy Kutyla for the 2016-17 season. Kutyla will join the team in the fall of 2016.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Timmy Kutyla to the Golden Gopher men's gymnastics family," said head coach Mike Burns. "As a member of the class of 2020, Timmy will be joining a talented group of gymnasts already forging a path to a great future."
Kutyla hails from Wyckoff, N.J., where he is currently a member of the U.S. Gym Development Center II under coach Genadi Shub.
The all-around competitor was the 2015 High Bar New Jersey State Champion, Region 7 Floor and High Bar Champion and placed 14th overall in the all-around at the 2015 P&G Championships. In addition, Kutyla earned first on high bar and still rings at the 2015 Polish National Championship and finished fourth on the high bar at the 2015 Junior Olympic meet.
"Timmy is not only a solid competitor, but he shows a high level of courage that is needed in this sport," said Burns. "His best event would probably be high bar, but he demonstrates a very good skill level on all six events. Timmy is going to be a big contributor to our team success right when he gets to campus next year."
