MINNEAPOLIS -- Senior Brook Garzone has been one of the more versatile players on her team, seeing significant ice time at both forward and defense during her Gopher career. Playing primarily at forward this season, Garzone has already matched her career total entering her senior year with five goals this season.

A native of Sand Springs, Okla., Garzone has recorded a total of 42 points (10g-32a) in 120 games during her career in Maroon & Gold. Playing both defense and forward has improved Garzone as a player and helped her appreciate all of her teammates' roles.

"Being strong on offense and defense, I'm not as frantic in the defensive zone," Garzone said. "Plus, I appreciate the defense a little bit more, because I know how hard it is and how hard they work."

As Garzone has laced up her skates for her senior year, she has embraced the leadership role that accompanies being an upperclassman. As a leader on the team, she likes to keep the mood light.

"I'm more like a class clown than anything," Garzone said. "I just like to have fun with the girls, and it's my last year so I just want to make everything count."

While she reflects on her hockey career, she remembers many great moments; from when she was inspired to play hockey after seeing "The Mighty Ducks" movies, to her time in Faribault, Minn., at Shattuck-St. Mary's School, to her successful career winding down with the Gophers.

"It's been very surreal, the amount of success we've had," Garzone said. "I'm very grateful for that, having four years in a row with a really good team."

She hopes to end her career by continuing to win games along with cherishing the rest of the season with her teammates with whom she has had so many fond memories.

"I'm not ready for it to end. Every moment with them is a special one."
