Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team earned a non-conference series sweep over Yale University with a 4-1 win Saturday night at Ridder Arena.

Lee Stecklein and Hannah Brandt led Minnesota with three points each on one goal and two assists, and Sidney Peters made 14 saves in her third win of the season.

"We just played real solid hockey for three full periods," head coach Brad Frost said. "To be able again to get that one early was big for us. Even though they got one, getting one at the end of the first and capturing that momentum was really important for us."

Along with multi-point efforts from Brandt and Stecklein, Milica McMillen, Sydney Baldwin, Dani Cameranesi, Sarah Potomak, and Kelly Pannek also had points on the night. McMillen and Baldwin scored a goal apiece, while Cameranesi tallied two assists. Pannek and Potomak both had single assists.

Minnesota (13-1-0, 9-1-0 WCHA) struck first with Brandt scoring on the power play with 3:42 to play in the first period. Yale answered to tie the game shortly afterwards, receiving their lone goal of the game from Phoebe Staenz with 2:18 left in the first period. Baldwin was able to find the back of the net just before the period closed, scoring a power-play goal with 24 seconds remaining.

Stecklein scored her second goal of the year 7:09 into the second period, while McMillen scored the final goal of the game on a power play with 14:42 remaining in the middle frame.

Hanna Mandl finished with 35 saves for Yale as the Gophers outshot the Bulldogs, 39-15.

The Gophers' power play was effective on the night, as they went three-for-three on their chances. Minnesota was also a perfect three-for-three on the penalty kill.

"Our power play was dialed in once again, going three-for-three tonight," Frost said. "Just a lot of really, really good stuff over the weekend."

Minnesota heads to Mankato, Minn., for a WCHA match-up against the Minnesota State Mavericks next weekend. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday afternoons.
