Junior Matt Fiedler has been all over the diamond early in his Gophers career. The Eagan, Minn. native has made 62 starts in the lineup and appeared in 23 games on the mound in his two years on campus. Fiedler has excelled in both hitting and pitching, garnering accolades such as being tabbed a Perfect Game Summer Collegiate All-American and was picked by Major League Scouts to participate in the Northwoods League's annual Major League Showcase event this past summer. He caught up recently with Gopher Sports.

Gopher Sports: What's your favorite flavor of sunflower seeds?

Matt Fiedler: Dill Pickle or BBQ.

GS: What MLB hitter/pitcher would you most like to face?

MF: I'd most like to pitch against Josh Donaldson because he's my favorite hitter and I'd love to see how hard he'd hit the ball. I'd most like to hit off Clayton Kershaw because I want to see what the curve looks like in person.

GS: What has been your favorite moment as a Gopher so far?

MF: Playing against the Twins, my favorite team since childhood, has been my coolest experience thus far.

GS: What is your favorite superhero?

MF: Batman. He's the dude.

GS: What are you looking forward to this season?

MF: I'm looking forward to the Gophers having a bounce back season and competing for a Big Ten title.

GS: If not baseball, what other sport would you most enjoy playing at the University of Minnesota?

MF: I'm a big college basketball fan. I'd be a great spot up shooter.

GS: What is your go-to walk-up song?

MF: I change my mind on my walk-up song daily.
