FREE THROW EFFICIENCY
Minnesota had a solid day at the free throw line versus Texas Tech, as the Gophers combined to make 16-of-18 (.889) attempts. Seniors Carlos Morris (4-of-5) and Joey King (4-of-4) each made four attempts, while Nate Mason, Jordan Murphy and Kevin Dorsey all were 2-of-2 at the line. During the three-game tournament, Minnesota players combined to make 53-of-69 (.768) free throw attempts.
SENIORITY
Joey King and Carlos Morris are Minnesota's lone seniors this season, and each player had strong efforts at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. King averaged 14.3 points and 3.3 rebounds, making 14-of-29 (.483) field goals, including 9-of-19 (.474) three-pointers, and 6-of-7 free throws. Morris averaged 14.3 points and 5.7 rebounds, connecting on 15-of-34 (.441) field goals, including 4-of-7 (.571) treys, while dishing out five assists and coming up with five steals.
BUGGS HAS SOLID WEEKEND
Charles Buggs put together a decent weekend in Puerto Rico, as he connected on 10-of-17 (.588) field goals, which included going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Over the three games, Buggs averaged 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds.
MASON SHINES AT FOUL LINE
As a freshman last season, Nate Mason struggled at the free throw line, making 51-of-83 attempts for just 61.4 percent. But this season, he's off to a much better start at the line. Through five games, Mason has made 15-of-16 (.938) free throws, including a stellar 13-of-14 (.929) showing over the weekend in Puerto Rico. Mason, who averaged 11.7 points and 3.0 assists in the three tournament games, made 11-of-12 foul shots in Thursday's opener versus Temple.
FRESHMEN PRODUCTION
Three freshmen -- Kevin Dorsey, Jordan Murphy and Dupree McBrayer -- have been seeing significant minutes off the bench for the Gophers. During the three games in Puerto Rico, Dorsey averaged 6.0 points, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Murphy was the Gophers' second-leading rebounder, grabbing 5.3 per contest to go along with 4.0 ppg and five blocked shots, and McBrayer combined for eight points, six assists and four boards.
