Potomak Named WCHA Rookie of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota freshman forward Sarah Potomak has earned the third WCHA Rookie of the Week award of her career this week. The WCHA honors Potomak after she recorded four points in Minnesota's sweep over Yale.
Potomak had three points (1g-2a) in the Gophers' 6-3 game one win before adding an assist in game two, a 4-1 victory. For the series, Potomak had one goal, three assists, and 11 shots on goal and was plus-five. She scored one game-winning goal and assisted the other, and she was on the ice for seven of Minnesota's 10 goals in the series.
In game one of the series, Potomak scored her fifth career goal to put Minnesota up 4-1 over the Bulldogs. The goal, scored at 7:07 of the second period, was the game winner as the Gophers won 6-3. Potomak also set up Dani Cameranesi on Minnesota's second and fifth goals. She was on the ice for five of the Gophers' six goals.
In Saturday's 4-1 win, Potomak assisted Sydney Baldwin's game-winning goal on the power play at 19:36 of the first period, giving the Gophers a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission. She was on the ice for two of Minnesota's four goals.
Potomak has at least one point in each of her 12 collegiate games. Her four-point series is her third-highest scoring output as a Gopher so far.
Potomak leads the Gophers, the WCHA, and the NCAA with 21 total assists and 1.75 assists per game. She ranks fourth in the NCAA among all players with 2.17 points per game. Her six power-play assists lead the NCAA and WCHA as well.
Among NCAA rookies, Potomak is the national leader with 26 total points, 21 total assists, 2.17 points per game, 1.75 assists per game, six power-play assists, six power-play points, and a plus-26 rating.
Potomak and No. 3 Minnesota (13-1-0, 9-1-0 WCHA) returns to WCHA action on the road at Minnesota State (2-13-1, 0-12-0 WCHA) this weekend. Puck drop is set for 2:07 p.m. CT both Friday and Saturday afternoons.
