The No. 4 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-2 come from behind win (25-27, 29-31, 25-17, 25-15, 15-9) over No. 16 Ohio State tonight at the Sports Pavilion. With the win, Minnesota (25-4, 17-2 in the Big Ten) earned at least a share of the Big Ten title, and could clinch the outright Big Ten Championship with a win over Indiana on Saturday.

The last time the Gophers erased a two-set deficit was last season against Boston College. With the win tonight, the Gophers now hold a 10-2 record in wins against ranked opponents. The win also finished out the regular home season with a perfect 13-0 mark at the Sports Pavlion this year.

Hannah Tapp and Sarah Wilhite both contributed 20 kills in the match, with H Tapp hitting .500 and adding seven blocks. Daly Santana added a double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs. Paige Tapp had seven kills and seven digs, and put up five blocks. Dalianliz Rosado added 21 digs on the match, and Katie Schau had 17. Molly Lohman contributed five kills and three blocks, and Samantha Seliger-Swenson had 59 assists and completed a double-double with 11 digs.

The Gophers will finish out the Big Ten season against the Hoosiers on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m., in Bloomington, Ind.

Set Breakdown:

Set 1: Ohio State hit .367 to Minnesota's .264 to take a 1-0 lead. The Gophers held an early 3-1 lead after a Santana ace, but both teams would remain even until the Buckeyes went on a 3-0 run, giving them a 10-7 lead. Minnesota responded back with their own 3-0 run with kills from Paige Tapp, Hannah Tapp, and Santana, tying the score at 10-10. Ohio State later gained their lead back after a 4-0 run at 20-17. Minnesota answered with a 3-0 run bringing the score to 20-20 after a Buckeye service error and a Santana kill. A Hannah Tapp/Wilhite block brought Minnesota to set point at 24-22, and force Ohio State to take a timeout. An Ohio State block and kill would force a Minnesota timeout. After the break, the Buckeyes would go on a 3-0 run to take the set, 27-25.

Set 2: Minnesota would hold an early 9-5 lead over Ohio State, but the Buckeyes would go on a 6-0 run to close the lead at 9-11. The teams would trade points after that to 15, until Ohio State would go on a 3-0 run at 19-16. The Gophers responded with their own 3-0 run to tie it up at 19, forcing an Ohio State timeout. The Buckeyes would have back-to-back blocks getting them to set point at 24-21, but a Paige Tapp ace and block by Maddie Beal and Hannah Tapp would tie the score at 24. Both teams would have back and forth points, but Ohio State would end the set at 31-29, taking a 2-0 lead. There were 16 tie scores in both the first and second set.

Set 3: Minnesota hit .333 to the Buckeye's .135 to take the third set, 25-17. Ohio State started out the third set up with a 3-0 run. The Buckeyes would continue to hold the lead until Minnesota took over the lead at 7-6, forcing an Ohio State time out. After the break, the Gophers would go on a 3-0 run. Minnesota would hold their largest lead of the set at 10-7, and continue to hold the lead until 21-17 when Ohio State would take their second timeout. Minnesota would respond with a 6-0 run, and a Santana kill would end the third set, giving the Gophers their first set win of the match.

To start the fourth set, the teams would trade points until 4-3, when the Gophers would hold the lead until 12-7 and force an Ohio State timeout. Minnesota would go on a 4-0 run, and continue to maintain the lead until another Buckeye timeout at 19-10. Minnesota would end the fourth set with a Hannah Tapp kill, 25-15.

The Gophers would start out the fifth set leading until a tie at 4-4. Both teams would continue to exchange points until a 2-0 run by Minnesota would force a Buckeye timeout at 7-6.
