MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Former Gopher Hockey defensemen had a huge night in NHL action on Tuesday, combining for three goals and four points.

Erik Johnson led the charge with a two-point night as the Colorado Avalanche topped Calgary 6-3. The defenseman notched an assist on the opening goal of the night and then added this short-handed goal later in the second period.

Alex Goligoski scored his first goal of the year with a power-play tally in the third period, giving the Dallas Stars an insurance goal in a 5-2 win over Boston. The Stars have now won four of their last five.

Finally, Nate Schmidt's Washington Capitals came up on the wrong end of a 5-2 battle with the New York Rangers, but the defenseman picked up his first point of the season with this nice feed to Alexander Ovechkin.
