Gophers Host SMSU in Final Exhibition

The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will welcome another in-state foe on Friday night for exhibition action, hosting Southwest Minnesota State at 7 p.m. at Williams Arena.
Friday's game is the second exhibition for the Gophers, who defeated Minnesota Crookston, 74-57, on Sunday evening at the Barn. In that game, freshman Jordan Murphy highlighted the action off the bench with 19 points and nine rebounds in his unofficial debut.
This is the third time the Gophers and Mustangs have met in an exhibition game. Minnesota beat SMSU 59-50 on Nov. 5, 2005, and also garnered an 88-52 victory on Nov. 6, 2007.
SMSU was picked to finish eighth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference after a 12-17 season a year ago.
Following Friday's exhibition, the Gophers return to action in one week, hosting UMKC at 8:00 p.m. in their season opener. The game is part of a women's/men's doubleheader at the Barn that day, with the Minnesota women's basketball team hosting Wofford at 5:30 p.m.
