COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (GopherSports.com) - Connor Olson won his first collegiate competition to give the No. 26 University of Minnesota men's cross country program its fourth-straight individual medalist at St. John's Fall Finale on Friday evening.
The Gophers posted the top six overall finishes in the eight-kilometer race.
A freshman competing unattached in the meet, Olson paced the race with a time of 24:59 to become the fourth-straight Gopher to win the Fall Finale (Matthew Jergenson in 2014, Aaron Bartnik in 2013, Blayne Dulian in 2012).
Cole O'Brien and Derek Wiebke both finished 10 seconds behind Olson at 25:09 in second and third, respectively, while Brad Woodford clocked a 25:25 to finish fourth overall. Unattached freshsman Evan Ferlic finished fifth overall with a time of 25:34 while Wayde Hall was one spot back in sixth at 25:56.
With only four attached runners competing in the event, the Maroon & Gold were not included in the team results.
Minnesota returns to action next Friday, Nov. 13 with the NCAA Midwest Regional in Lawrence, Kan.
