WCHA Honors Cameranesi, Potomak

MINNEAPOLIS - Dani Cameranesi and Sarah Potomak have earned WCHA Players of the Week accolades for their play in No. 3 Minnesota's road sweep over Minnesota State last weekend. Cameranesi's WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award marks her first of the season while Potomak takes home her fourth WCHA Rookie of the Week honor.

WCHA Offensive Player of the Week: Dani Cameranesi

Junior forward Dani Cameranesi recorded six points on three goals and three assists against Minnesota State. She tallied five points (2g-3a) in Minnesota's 11-1 win before scoring the game-winner in Saturday's 2-1 win to seal the sweep. For the series, Cameranesi was on the ice for nine of Minnesota's 13 goals.

In Friday's 11-1 win, Cameranesi scored two goals on four shots on goal. She netted Minnesota's first and fourth goals of the game. She gave the Gophers a 1-0 lead at the 6:00 mark of the first period, scoring her NCAA-best eighth power-play goal of the season. She then set up Minnesota's sixth, seventh, and 10th goals of the game. Cameranesi finished +6 for the game.

In Saturday's 2-1 win, Cameranesi scored the game-winning goal, breaking a 1-1 tie at 14:32 of the second period, netting her 18th goal of the season. It marked Cameranesi's third game-winning goal of the season. She had four shots on goal and was +1.

Cameranesi leads the nation with 2.38 points per game, eight power-play goals, 11 power-play points, and a .333 scoring percentage (18 goals on 54 shots on goal). Her 38 points lead the WCHA and rank second in the nation, and her 18 goals are second in the WCHA and fourth in the NCAA. Cameranesi is on a seven-game point streak during which she has 20 points (9g-11a) and averages 2.9 points per game.

WCHA Rookie of the Week: Sarah Potomak

Freshman forward Sarah Potomak recorded seven points in Minnesota's 11-1 win over Minnesota State last Friday. She recorded her second career multi-goal game with two goals and recorded a game-high five assists. For the series, Potomak had two goals, five assists, and seven shots on goal and was +7. She was on the ice for nine of Minnesota's 13 goals in the series.

Potomak's career-high seven-point game tied the Minnesota program record for points in a single game, matching a record held by Hannah Brandt and Nadine Muzerall. Her five assists tied for third in Gopher single-game history as well.

In Friday's 11-1 win, Potomak contributed to seven of 11 goals and was on the ice for eight of the 11 goals. She assisted Dani Cameranesi's power-play goal at 6:00 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead and also picked up assists on the Gophers' third and fourth goals of the game. She scored Minnesota's seventh goal of the game, making it 7-0. After MSU scored to make it 7-1, Potomak contributed to Minnesota's eighth, ninth and 10th goals, setting up Hannah Brandt on the eighth and 10th tallies and scoring the ninth herself. Potomak had two goals on five shots on goal and was +6 for the game.

In Saturday's 2-1 win to seal the sweep, Potomak had two shots on goal and was +1. She was on the ice for the Gophers' game-winning goal.

Potomak leads the NCAA with 26 total assists and 1.86 assists per game. She ranks second in the NCAA among all players with 2.36 points per game. Her seven power-play assists lead the WCHA and rank second in the NCAA. Potomak's 33 total points rank third in the league (behind teammates Cameranesi and Brandt) and fifth in the nation.

Cameranesi, Potomak, and the Gophers travel to No. 1 Wisconsin for a WCHA border battle this weekend.
