Head Coach Marlene Stollings
Opening statement:
"Credit to New Mexico, I thought they executed their game plan at a very high level. One of the keys for us was to rebound and we didn't do that very well. We gave up 20 O-boards and regardless of the opponent it is going to be tough to win those kinds of games. But I thought that we didn't fight as hard and play as tough as we needed to tonight. I thought when things didn't go our way or we missed some shots we reacted too negatively to that. We've got to mature and not respond in a bad way when things aren't going our way."
On if there was a larger problem with Rachel Banham and Carlie Wagner shooting a low percentage:
"Well, no, they're leaders in scoring in the nation [second-highest scoring duo in the nation]. They got really good looks. I'm not displeased with our looks. I thought we got looks at the basket and looks out away from the basket and we didn't knock them down. We're going to have some nights like that but we can't let it impact us so greatly on the other end of the floor, and I really believe that is what happened. We didn't really stay in it. We didn't fight in those moments when things weren't going our way collectively as a team and that's not Gopher basketball. We're better than that and we have to learn and grow from this very quickly."
On New Mexico's second half:
"Rebounding, that is when they went to work on the boards. They got two, three and four rebounds in some of those possessions that was the difference. Bottom line, we were forcing them into a lot of first shots that we wanted them to take. They came off and got a second and a third shot. We did not pursue the rebounds effectively and initially we did not push back with authority."
