Gophers in the Polls: December 2

As December arrives for the ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers programs, so does conference and postseason play for both the fall and winter teams.

Women's Hockey - #3 (USCHO.com), #3 (USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine)

Last Week: The Gophers earned a WCHA series sweep over Minnesota State on the road last weekend. Minnesota (15-1-0, 11-1-0-0 WCHA) won 11-1 and 2-1 over the Mavericks.

Coming Up: Minnesota travels to Madison for a weekend border battle series with the top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers. Game time is set for 7:07 p.m. CT Friday and 3:07 p.m. CT Saturday.

Volleyball - #4 (AVCA), #2 (NCAA RPI)

Last Week: The Gophers topped Ohio State in five sets at home on Wednesday and on Saturday defeated Indiana, 3-1, on the road to claim their first Big Ten Conference title since 2002.

Coming Up: Minnesota, who earned the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, host first and second round action this weekend beginning with a 6:30 p.m. match Friday against SWAC champion Jackson State.

Men's Gymnastics - #8

Coming Up: The Gophers will host their annual Maroon and Gold meet on Dec. 12 with action beginning at 2:00 p.m. The meet, usually held at Cooke Hall, will take place in the Sports Pavilion. The regular-season will open on Sunday, Jan. 17, as Minnesota will travel to the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ill.

Men's Swimming & Diving - #20

Last Week: The team was idle last week.

Coming Up: The Gophers host the annual Jean K. Freeman Invite on Friday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 5.

Women's Swimming & Diving - #18

Wrestling - #18 (Intermat)

Last Week: The Gophers moved up three spots in the polls after being edged by No. 3 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, 20-17. Highlighting the action were Jake Short and Brandon Kingsley who recorded back-to-back upsets of the nation's No. 8 (149) and No. 14 (157) wrestlers.

Coming Up: Minnesota will look to defend its title against a nationally elite field at the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nev. The two-day tournament will begin this Friday and wrap up on Saturday.
