We have been catching up with the Gophers over the past month. As we head into the holiday break we checked in with sophomore infielder Dani Wagner.

Gopher Sports: How were finals for you? Any big plans for your holiday break?

Dani Wagner: So far finals have been going relatively well for me, although I am only about halfway done. I don't have any big plans for holiday break besides watching a lot of Hayfield Vikings basketball and celebrating the holidays with my family.

GS: Favorite holiday tradition?

DW: My favorite family holiday tradition is having dinner with my entire extended family followed by a night full of card games and unending laughter.

GS: Are you into all this Star Wars hype right now? If so, what Star Wars character would you most like to dress up as and why?

DW: I would dress up as Obi-Wan Kenobe with Nel as one of the other characters, so we could walk around and have spontaneous lightsaber fights while making lightsaber noises.

GS: Most binge-worthy Netflix show and why?

DW: There are so many binge-worthy Netflix shows, but I would have to say Revenge and Vampire Diaries are up there as my favorites. Revenge just always keeps you guessing and has so many surprises while you root for Emily (the main character) to find happiness with someone in her life, and the Vampire Diaries is just me being a romantic 'cause who doesn't love a little bit of true love with some vampires, witches and werewolves mixed in.

GS: Last season you stepped in starting the final 16 games at shortstop as just a freshman. What are you looking to keep building on this season?

DW: This year, I am just looking to continue helping my team in whatever way they need me whether it be getting thrown into the outfield, pinch running, or simply getting gritty in practices and games. We are a team that is always working hard to get better, so I plan to continue that work ethic in all that we do. Last year, I stepped in as the starting shortstop, but did not have many opportunities to hit. My goal is to keep working on my swing and confidence at the plate in order to crack the batting lineup come spring.

GS: Most looking forward to this season?

DW: I am most looking forward to the experiences we have as a team. On the field, we compete and celebrate in each other's successes while off the field, we have a good time full of laughter and memories. I can't wait to compete with this great group of women while proudly wearing the maroon and gold.
