GAME DAY TID-BITS
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team welcomes South Dakota on Saturday afternoon.
• South Dakota has won three straight games, including a pair of wins last weekend over Sacramento State and Eastern Washington.
• Minnesota defeated Clemson on Monday, 89-83, for its fifth straight Big Ten/ACC Challenge victory. Head coach Richard Pitino is now 3-0 in the event.
• Among a number of standout performances on Monday against the Tigers was the double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds put up by freshman Jordan Murphy, both career high totals.
• This is the first time the Gophers are playing two schools from the same state back-to-back in nonconference play since 2002, when the Gophers hosted both Georgia and Georgia Tech on Nov. 30 and Dec. 4.
• Senior Joey King was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 17 after his performances at home in the opening weekend of the season. .
• King tied his career-high with six three-pointers and established a career-best with 22 points in 28 minutes against UMKC. King finished the game 7-of-10 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line. His previous career-high for points had been 21 points on two occasions, most recently versus Missouri State on Jan. 5, 2013, when he was a member of the Drake Bulldogs. King also had six treys during Minnesota's 80-68 win versus Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament on March 11, 2015.
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team will welcome three new members starting in 2016, as guard Amir Coffey (Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS), forward Eric Curry (Little Rock, Ark./Southwest Christian Academy) and guard/forward Michael Hurt (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) signed their National Letters of Intent on Nov. 11. The trio represents the highest-rated signing class in Pitino's tenure, as the group is ranked 17th nationally by 247Sports and 20th in the nation by Scout.com. Both publications have listed the Gophers recruiting class as the third-highest ranked in the Big Ten.
