Dec. 8, 2015

For the second consecutive year, Minnesota began December with a trip to the desert to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas. The Gophers took third in this year's event, which featured a 40-team field, headlined by 12 ranked teams.

Minnesota's third-place performance came courtesy of a strong first day performance featuring plenty of bonus points (12 of the Gophers' 27 wins on Friday came by major decision, tech fall or pin) and four wrestlers turning in top-three finishes as individuals. Three Gophers finished as the runners-up in their weight classes: Jake Short at 149, Brett Pfarr at 197 and Michael Kroells at 285. Tommy Thorn finished third at 141.

Minnesota returns to dual action this Friday (Dec. 11), when the Gophers host Indiana in their Big Ten opener. The match will begin at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Sports Pavilion.
